Thanksgiving Memories…
It seems the older I get, the more the memories of the past flow through my mind.
Today I am remembering my cousin Russell a lot today. If you have been around me for any length of time you have heard a Russell and Junior story. (yes, I said Jr., back home that is who I am and who I will always be.)
This would be a time of year that we would be all into hunting. Deer, turkey, quail… we enjoyed the outside.
One day we were out on Cheaha Mt. and we had got into some pretty thick brush, I’m thinking the “short little guy” can go underneath most of it. So off I went, crouching down and going underneath and I heard Russell whisper, “Jr, Stop!” Thinking he has spotted something, I stopped in my track and waited. Trying to be as quiet as I could hear him, but I didn’t know what. All of a sudden I hear “KaBOOM!!!!” and feel the wind of bird shot flying by me. All of a sudden, a very large snake, fell down beside me.
Now if you know me, you know I have a tremendous fear of snakes. I’m pretty sure I screamed like a girl and then ran like Moses when the rod turned into a serpent.
But then I said….Russell are you crazy!!!! You could have killed me!
He said, If you saw that snake, you would have already died!
Very True…. Thanks Russ.
Now for the record….It was totally safe, far from me, just above me.
I think, he thought he saved my life.
He probably did.
I know many people miss him now and that the Holidays will be hard for many of his family. I’m glad that I have these great memories of our life as cousins, brothers and friends!
